SEN. MARSHALL BACKS FERTILIZER RELIEF BILL
Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall said several bills under consideration in the U.S. Senate could help reduce high fertilizer costs for farmers, including a measure that would remove countervailing duties on phosphate imports from Morocco. Marshall said the proposal could cut phosphate fertilizer prices by more than 20%, or about $150 a ton, and return savings to Kansas farmers. The Lowering Input Costs for American Farmers Act would end the 2021 countervailing duty order on phosphate imports and restore access to lower-priced fertilizer, and is co-sponsored by Sens. Chuck Grassley, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Joni Ernst. Marshall also said other bipartisan bills aimed at price transparency, market research, domestic production, competition and reduced regulatory barriers could further lower input costs.
